Press Release October 4-10, 2020

PRESS RELEASE
On Sunday, October 04, 2020 at approximately 11:15 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Claudia Yesenia Perez Lara, 31, of Waterloo.  Perez Lara was charged with first offense Operating While Intoxicated/Drugged (serious misdemeanor).  This arrest was made following a traffic stop near the 248 mile marker of Hwy 20.

On Monday, October 05, 2020 at approximately 8:40 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Harley Dianne Slaughter, 25, of Cedar Rapids.  Slaughter was arrested on an active arrest warrant out of Buchanan County for Probation Violation and held at the Buchanan County Jail.

On Wednesday, September 09, 2020 at approximately 4:05 pm, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 report of an incident involving a school bus from the Jesup Community School District.  It was reported that some students aboard the bus had contacted parents and stated that the driver was having difficulty operating the bus in a safe manner.  Concerned for the safety of the children and the wellbeing of the bus driver, one parent was able to keep the bus at a bus stop in the 2800 blk Benson Shady Grove Avenue south of Jesup while Sheriff’s Deputies and EMS personnel were dispatched.  The bus driver was transported to MercyOne Hospital in Waterloo for medical evaluation.  An investigation was initiated following observations noted at the scene by law enforcement.  Ultimately, a possible medical episode was ruled out and at the conclusion of the investigation, criminal charges were filed.

 On Tuesday, October 06, 2020 at approximately 7:00 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested James Dale Stockwell, 62, of Jesup.  Stockwell was charged with first offense Operating While Intoxicated/Drugged (serious misdemeanor) and 16 counts of Child Endangerment (aggravated misdemeanor).  Stockwell was also issued a traffic citation for Unsafe Backing.  No injuries were reported in this incident.  The Jesup Community School District was in full cooperation during the investigation and the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Iowa DOT Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, Jesup Ambulance Service and Brandon Fire Department.

 PRESS RELEASE
On Wednesday, October 07, 2020 at approximately 8:50 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Michael James Schiller, 35, of Waterloo.  Schiller was charged with Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana (serious misdemeanor), Driving While License Suspended (simple misdemeanor), Failure to Have SR22 Insurance (simple misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor), and was cited for Operating Non-Registered Vehicle and Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance.  This arrest was made following a traffic stop near the 265 mile marker of Hwy 20.

PRESS RELEASE
On Saturday, October 10, 2020 at approximately 1:35 am, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Wellington Miller McKeen III, 30, of Hiawatha.  McKeen was charged with first offense Operating While Intoxicated (serious misdemeanor) Careless Driving (simple misdemeanor).  This arrest was made following a traffic stop in the 100 blk Eighth Avenue NW in Independence.

PRESS RELEASE
On Saturday, October 10, 2020 at approximately 1:25 pm, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Lorita Mary Horkheimer, 59, of Hazleton.  Horkheimer was charged with two counts of Assault (simple misdemeanor) and one count of Interference with Official Acts (simple misdemeanor).  This arrest was made following an incident in the 200 blk South Madison Street in Hazleton.
