Jennifer Lynn Reuther, 48, of Independence, Iowa, received two 10 year suspended prison sentences for Theft in the First Degree and Fraudulent Practice in the First Degree in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on September 30, 2020.
Kevin Allen Krapfl Jr., 30, of Manchester, Iowa, was sentenced to serve a prison term of 10 years in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on September 24, 2020.

Autumn Christine Meiborg, 22, of Independence, Iowa, was sentenced to serve a prison term of 10 years in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on August 25, 2020.
On June 5, 2020, the Iowa Attorney General’s Office filed an eight count Verified Application for Order to Show Cause against Buchanan County Jail Administrator Russell D. West. Mr. West resigned his position with Buchanan County on June 3, 2020.
As a safety measure in response to COVID-19, the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors has ordered all non-essential county offices closed from March 24 through at least April 3, 2020. As a result, the Buchanan County Attorney’s Office is closed and employees will be working remotely. All attempts will be made to respond to voicemails left at (319) 334-3710 and emails directed to buchatty@co.buchanan.ia.us but delays are possible. In the case of an emergency, dial 9-1-1 or contact the Buchanan County Communications Center at (319) 334-2567.
Due to the uncertainties associated with COVID-19 and in an effort to best protect the welfare of the residents and employees of Buchanan County, the Board of Supervisors and Department Heads are limiting access to all county offices.
Effective immediately all services are by appointment only until further notice.

Shane Allen Heins was sentenced to 50 years in prison with a mandatory minimum of 35 years prior to parole eligibility in the Iowa District Court for Buchanan County on March 10, 2020.
On January 22, 2020, a Buchanan County jury found Shane Allen Heins, 45, of Independence, Iowa, guilty of Arson in the First Degree and two counts of Attempt to Commit Murder.
