Buchanan County Public Health COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics

Buchanan County Public Health (BCPH) in collaboration with Buchanan County Health Center, Regional Family Health Winthrop, MercyOne Family Health, & local pharmacies are planning on changing the model of vaccine delivery in Buchanan County to a weekly community-based clinic starting the week of March 22nd.

These clinics are open to any individual who qualifies in Phase 1A or Phase 1B. This includes: Healthcare personnel, long-term care facility residents, persons aged 65 and older or individuals 64 years of age and younger that are or might be at an increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 due to medical conditions, First responders (fire, police offices & child welfare social workers), pre-school through 12th grade school staff, early childhood education, childcare workers, individuals living in home settings that are dependent on attendant care staff & their attendant care staff, frontline essential workers in the food, agricultural, distribution, and manufacturing sectors who work in or live in congregate settings that do not allow for social distancing, staff of and individuals living in congregate settings such as shelters, sober living homes, behavioral health treatment centers, and detention centers, inspectors responsible for health, life & safety, governmental officials engaged in state business at the Iowa Capitol during the legislative session, & correctional facility staff.

The CDC states the following conditions puts a person at an increased risk: cancer, chronic kidney disease, COPD, down syndrome, heart conditions, immunocompromised state, obesity (BMI 30 or greater), pregnancy, sickle cell disease, smoking, type 2 diabetes. Conditions that may put a person at a greater risk include: asthma, cerebrovascular disease, cystic fibrosis, high blood pressure, neurologic conditions, liver disease, overweight (BMI 25 or greater), pulmonary fibrosis, thalassemia, type 1 diabetes.

**The March25th clinic is full**
Thursday March 25th the clinic will be administering Pfizer vaccine between 7:00 am and 5:00pm. There will be 1170 doses available. The following weeks we anticipate only 400 doses Moderna vaccine will be available. Due to the low quantity of doses received and the high demand these clinics will be by appointment only.
